Anteriorly, over the tracheal area, high-pitched
inspiration< expiration
Bronchovesicular
Anteriorly & posteriorly, hear in 1 & 2 intercostal space, b/w scapula T3 T4, medium pitched, inspiration=expiration
Vesicular
Anterior & posterior, peripheral, low pitch, inspiration > expiration
High-pitched, polyphonic wheeze
Mainly expiration, high-pitched, musical, many sound qualities
Ex. asthma, pneumonia
Rhonchi ( Low-pitched, monophonic wheeze)
Mainly expiration, low-pitched, 1 sound quality
Ex. bronchitis
Stridor
inspiration, high-pitched, gasp w/harsh qualities
Ex. airway obstruction
Coarse Crackles
Mainly inspiration, low-pitch, wet/bubbling
-can be caused by extra fluid
Fine Crackles
Inspiration, crackling sound
Pleural friction rub
Inspiration & expiration, low pitch, grating sound
Ex. pneumonia
Absent or Diminished Breath Sounds
Lack of airflow
