Q

What’s the causes of eustatic sea rise

A

Global warming melts the ice caps which increases sea level, if the water gets hotter then it expands,

Q

How can tectonics affect sea rise

A

Large vertical movements of the crust (depression or uplift) can change shape and volume of ocean basins and level of the land. Creation of volcanic islands can displace water increasing sea level

Q

What is the cycle of sea level change

A

Stage one - global cooling, hydro cycle slows down, now and ice falling, sea level falls(eustatic)

Stage two - compression of land due to the weight of the ice, (isostatic)

Stage 3 - global warming melts the ice causing sea level to rise and creates submergent features (eustatic)

Stage 4 - all/ most ice has melted meaning the land is rebounding (isostatic) causing emergent features to rise

Q

How is a Dalmatian coast formed?

A

Found when mountains run parallel the coast. Water floods the space behind the mountains either through erosion or because the sea level has risen causing lower land to be flooded/ valley flood. This produces long narrow in lets and they can be found in Croatia.
