carbon and water cycle Flashcards
what is the cryosphere?
an water that is in solid form (ice)
what is the atmosphere
water that is made up of gases and water vapour that surrounds the earth
what is the biosphere
all water that is held in living organisms such as plants and animals
the total sum of all living matter, biological component of earth systems
what is the lithosphere
the wate that is held on the crust of the earth/ the earth surface.
what is permafrost
ground that remans at 0 - 2 degrees Celsius for more than 2 years it can vary from less than 1m to 1500m in thickness
what does ice store?
carbon dioxide and methane
what are ice caps?
ice caps are thick layers of ice on the land that are smaller than 50km^2.
where do icecaps usually form?
mountainous areas with the peak of the dome shape.
what is an example of positive feedback in the water cycle?
increase in water vapour > increase in atmospheric pressure > rise in global water vapour levels >enhancing atmospheric warming
what is deposition?
when gas turns to solid (it deposits the ice)
what is sublimation?
when solid turns to gas
