SDG 3 name
GOOD HEALTH AND WELLBEING: ENSURE HEALTHY LIVES AND PROMOTE WELLBEING FOR ALL AT ALL AGES
SDG 3 purpose
This SDG aims to promote physical and mental health and wellbeing. It also aims to extend life expectancy through focusing on the major causes of mortality and morbidity in high-, middle-, and low-income countries.
SDG 3 targets
- reduce maternal mortality
- end preventable deaths of newborns and children under five, reducing neonatal mortality
- ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services
- achieve universal health coverage, including access to affordable essential medicines and vaccines
- reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment, and promote mental health and wellbeing
- end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTD), and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases
- strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including drugs and alcohol
- halve global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents

key feature 1: maternal and child health and wellbeing
this feature aims to promote maternal health and wellbeing by reducing maternal mortality rates. It also aims to end preventable deaths of newborns (neonatal mortality) and children under 5 (U5MR)

- reducing teen and child pregnancy
- family planning services
- vaccinations
- safe birthing facilities
- access to antenatal care
key feature 2: communicable diseases
this feature aims to end epidemics of communicable diseases, in particular AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases. It also aims to reduce hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases.

key feature 3: non-communicable diseases
this feature aims to reduce the incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that occur due to lifestyle or environmental factors. these include CVD, cancer, obesity, diabetes and chronic respiratory conditions.
This key feature also focuses on other causes of poor health such as substance abuse, pollution, and road traffic accidents.
