Scrotum Flashcards
What are the structures found in the spermatic cord?
Proximal vas deferens Deferential artery Pampiniform venous plexus Lymphatics Autonomic nerve fibers
What is the size of the normal testicle?
5 cm long
3 cm wide
2 cm thick
What is the connective tissue surrounding the testicle?
Tunica albuginea
What is the tunica vaginalis?
Tunica vaginalis surrounds the tunica albuginea and contains a visceral layer covering the inner scrotal surface and extending up the spermatic cord
Formed when the testis passed through the peritoneum during descent into scrotum
What are the inguinal canals?
Paired structures found in the adult abdominal wall
It allows the spermatic cord contents to pass between scrotum and abdominal cavity
Where are sperm formed?
Convoluted seminiferous tubules
Where are sperm stored and matured?
The epididymis
Where is testosterone produced?
Leydig cells in connective tissue spaces between the seminiferous tubules
What do the cremasteric muscles do?
The envelop the spermatic cord and are used to control the testicular temp
What is the normal sonographic appearance of the testicle?
Uniform, homogenous parenchyma with mid grey color
Similar to liver echotexture
What is the normal appearance of the tunica albuginea?
Thin peripheral echogenic layer
What is the normal appearance of the mediastinum testis?
Echogenic line spanning long axis
What is the normal appearance of the scrotal wall?
Single, bright echogenic line
How wide is the scrotal wall normally?
2-8 mm thick
What is the normal appearance of the epididymis?
Course echotexture, isoechoic to testicle
Triangular shape in long axis along the posterior aspect of the superior pole
