the scottish national covenant - was a manifesto written by presbyterian radicals to unite those against charles’ religious policy, those who signed were known as covenanters

allowed the scots to call a religious general assembly at glasgow in september 38
what did the general assembly do?
abolished episcopacy and annuled the canon laws

negotiated by charles - agreed to meet the general assembly and church of scotland and disband their armies
why did charles negotiate the truce of berwick?
he had problems collecting ship money and didn’t want to recall parliament for funds
why didn’t the covenanters disband their army?
because they didn’t trust charles - this reduced englih power and authority in scotland
