Scoliosis Flashcards
2 categories of scoliosis
- Structural- cant correct this
2. Functional- may be able to help this
What does Adams test distinguish
- used to distinguish b/w functional + structural scoliosis
- if there is hib humping then it is likely a structural scoliosis
What does the tilt test distinguish
- used to distinguish b/w functional +structural scoliosis
- when you tilt side to side if the curve stays curved even when it should be, likely to be structural
causes of structural scoliosis (and percentage)
Idiopathic (80%)- dont know reason
congenital- due to hemi vert
neuromuscular/neurofibromatosis
causes of functional scoliosis
- postural
- leg length inequality
- antalgic
what does SALAD stand for in scoliosis
S- shape (C or S) A- Apex (vert level) L- Location (levels involved) A- Angle (measure cobbs) D- Direction (determined by convex side)
What does a right thoracic curve suggest
idiopathic structural scoliosis
How do you grade for rotation in structural scoliosis
Sp and pedicle rotated toward the concavity
at what angle should children be refered out
30 degrees or greater but should be continually screened before hand
