Scoliosis Flashcards
dextroscoliosis
scoliosis to the right
curve that sidebends left
levoscoliosis
scoliosis left
curve sidebent right
structural scoliotic curve vs functional
Functional :
flexible and can be partially- completely corrected with sidebending to opp side
fixed and inflexible
does not correct with sidebending in opp direction
cobb angles for mild, mod, severe scoliosis
mild 5-15
mod 20-45
severe >50
resp function compromised when
CV?
resp when thoracic >50 degrees
CV when >75 degrees
What side will the following occur in short leg syndrome Hypertonicity of: Piriformis Psoas Quadratus Glut SF test Deep sacral sulcus
Opposite of short leg= piriformis and DS
Everything else will be on same side as SL
What are the guidelines for a heel lift?
Final height should be?
Flexible Pt
Apply lift to short side
Final height should be 1/2-3/4 measured leg length discrepency (unless sudden cause of discrepancy then do full amount right away)
Fragile patient
Fexible patient: 1/8 or 3.2 mm every 2 weeks
maximum heel lift inside a shoe vs maximum heel lift overall
1/4”
1/2
What should the “fragile” pt begin with?
: 1/16 of 1.5 mm to begin and increase 1/6 every 2 weeks
What should the “flexible” pt begin with?
1/8” (3.2mm) and increase 1/8” every 2 weeks
or 3.2 mm
Which type of scoliosis is assoc with vertebral wedging and shortened ligaments/musccles on concave side?
Structure
