Sclerosing Lesions Flashcards
What is sclerosing lesions and what can it cause?
Sclerosing adenosis
Radial scar/complex sclerosing lesion
Benign disorderly proliferation of acini and stroma
Can cause mass or calcification
What can sclerosing lesions mimic?
May mimic carcinoma
Presentation of sclerosing adenosis?
Pain, tenderness or lumpiness/thickening
Asymptomatic
Age 20-70
Benign lesion with negligible risk of subsequent carcinoma
How does radial scar present?
Wide age range
Common & incidiental
What investigation diagnoses radial scar?
Mammography
Pathology of radial scar present?
Stellate architecture
Central puckering
Radiating fibrosis
Histology of radial scar?
Fibroelastic core
Radiating fibrosis containing distorted ductule
Fibrocystic change
Epithelial proliferation
Treatment of radial scar?
Excise or sample extensively by vacuum biopsy
