Initial advice/plan for management of mastitis?

A
  • Examine every 3 days to be certain no abscess formation

- Continue breast feeding if doing that

1st line treatment for mastitis?

A

Ensure compete breast emptying by feeding +/- expressing
Warm compresses and NSAIDs
May require ABs
If no response may = breast abscess

A

Flucloxacillin if no improvement or sepsis signs present

-Clindamycin if penicillin allergic
