Science: Reactions Flashcards
State the Law of Conservation of Mass
A principle in which states that mass cannot be created nor destroyed
What is the name given to chemicals that react in a reaction
reactives
What is the name given to chemicals that are formed in a chemical reaction
products
What are the products for Acids and Metals
Hydrogen Gas and Salt
What are the products for Acids and Bases
Salt and Water
What are the products for Acids and Carbonate?
Carbon Dioxide, Water and Salt
In an exothermic reaction what changes?
Heat is increased and energy is released
In an endothermic reaction what changes?
Heat is decreased and energy enters
State the kinds of reaction needed to know
Combustion, Rusting, Exo & Endothermic, oxidation, and all reactions made with Acids.
What are the two kinds of changes
Physical and Chemical
What are some physical changes
Position, shape, size, and state (liquid, solid, gas)
What are some chemical changes
Release of light or sound, new gas, colour change, disappearance or formation of solid, temperature change
When naming salts, how is it ordered?
Element naming order must be Base to Acid: E.g – Barium Sulfate (Barium is base, sulfate is acid)
What is an ion?
an Ion is a group of atoms that has an unbalance of electrons, either more or less
What is the formulae to create ionic compounds?
Metal Ion + Non Metal Ion
What is a compound?
Made of two or more elements: chemically combined
What is an isotope?
The same element as original, but with different number of neutrons
