Science quizzy chp 2 sec 1 Flashcards
Net Force
all the forces acting on an object
Newton’s first law
Objects in motion stay in motion until an outside force acts upon it. Objects at rest will stay at rest unless and outside force acts upon it.
Force
push or pull of an object
friction
a force that acts to resist moving between 2 touching surfaces
Static Friction
the type of friction that prevents an object from moving when a force is applied. Static friction gets greater when the surface gets rougher and the object gets heavier. Enough force needs to be applied to overcome static friction
Sliding friction
Slows down the sliding object. A force must be applied to move the rough areas of one surface past the rough areas of the other.
Rolling friction
friction needed to make a wheel or tire turn. Friction between the tire or wheel and the ground.
