Science Quiz 1 Scientific Method And Cells Flashcards
What is the definition of independent variable?
Factor adjusted by the experiment
What is the dependent variable?
Factor whose value depends on the value of the dependent variable (can be measured)
What is a indirect graph?
A relation ship between two values there’s and increase in one result in a decrease in other
What is direct graph?
A relation ship between two values there’s an increase in one result in a increase in the other
What is the x in the graph?
Independent variable
What is the y?
The dependent variable
What is constants
Any condition that are kept the same between control and experimental group are our constants
What is a control?
In an experiment it is the standard for comparison
What is the experimental group
in an experiment that receives the variable being tested.
What is a plasma (cell) membrane?
Wraps around the cell, enclosed the nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell, found in both pro and eukaryotes cells , made up of two fatty layer called lipid bilayer, controls movement of substance in and out of cell
What is the cell wall?
Found in both eu and prokaryotes cell (plant and Most bacteria and some protist not animal), surrounds the outside of the plasma membrane, made up of sugars
What is a cytoplasm?
The material inside a living cell, includes all organelles except for the nucleus
What is a nucleus?
Contains DNA, place where mitosis occurs, DNA controls the function of the cell and produces proteins, contains nucleoli where RNA forms ribosomes in the cytoplasm
What are ribosomes?
Located in cytoplasm, puts together amino acid to form proteins, found inside the ER
What are proteins
They do most of the work in cells and are required for the regulation of the body’s tissue and organs. Some functions include antibody(fight infections), enzyme (perform chemical reaction), structural, transport
What is the endoplasmic reticulum?
An organelle, that is made up of passageway to carry protein and other material from one part of the cell to another
What are two of the endoplasmic reticulum?
Smooth ER (no ribosomes makes lipids) rough ER ( ribosomes are presents)
What is the Golgi body?
Looks like flattened stacks, receives proteins and lipids from the ER, packages them into VESICLES and distributes them throughout the cell
What are lysosomes?
Comes from VESICLES made by the Golgi body, contains digestive chemicals that help break down food, debris and bacteria
What is the mitochondria?
Carries out celluar respiration using carbohydrates and fats in the cell, produce energy in order for the cell to carry functions, is found in eukaryotes (bacteria does not have mitochondria)
What are chloroplasts
Found in prokaryotes and eukaryotes (not in all plants Protists), make food through photosynthesis, this organelle contains green pigment known as chlorophyll, which captures radiant(light) energy in order to make sugar (glucose)
What are vacuoles?
Storage bubble, storage food, water, waste, and debris in the cell, waste will be eliminated from the cell through exocytosis(outside)
Cell wall
Protects and support the cell
Cell membrane
Protects the cell, performs active transport and passive transport, moved materials in and out of cell, communication
