Science: Basic Microscope Technique And Rules To Follow Flashcards
If you are going to carry a microscope how will you hold it?
Hold its arm and the base
What should you do before placing a slide under the objectives?
Lower the stage or raise the objectives
What should u start with first?
Low power objective
What should u do before using corse adjustment?
Look at the slide from the side (not through the eye piece) to make sure that the objectives won’t crack the slide
When should u never use coarse adjustment?
Never use corse adjustment on medium or high power focus on low first then rotate the high power to place make final focus adjustment with the fine focus adjustment
What is the base?
Supports and stabilizes the microscope
What is the light source?
(Lamp or mirror) provides light for viewing the slide
What is he diaphragm?
It controls the amount of light passing through the slide
What is the stage and stage clip?
It holds the slide in place
What is the arm?
Supports the body tube
What is the body tube?
Maintains the proper distance between the object and ocular lens
What is the coarse focus adjustment?
Moves stage up and down a large amount for coarse focus
What is the fine focus adjustment?
Moves stage up and down a small amount for fine focus (used with high power lens)
What is the objective lens?
(High and low power lens) focuses and magnifies light coming through the slide
What is the revolving nose piece?
Rotates to allow use of different power objective
