Science- Light Flashcards
Ray model of light
Light is represented as a straight line or Ray that shows direction the light wave is travelling
Ray
Imaginary line showing direction in which light is travelling
Transparent
Allows light to pass through freely
Only small light absorbed and reflected
Translucent
Most light rays get through but scattered all directions
Opaque
Prevents any light from passing through it
Incident Ray
Incoming Ray
Reflected Ray
Ray that bounces of barrier
Normal
Imaginary line that is perpendicular to the boundary between two materials. Intersects the point at which the incident Ray reaches the boundary
Law of reflection
The angle of reflection equals the angle of incidence
Angle of refraction
Angle of Ray of light emerging from boundary between the refracted Ray and normal
Light density - away
Dense- toward
The normal
Concave mirror
Distant- small and upside down
Approaches fp- upside down and larger
Between fp and mirror- upright and larger
Convex
Upright and smaller than object
Concave lens
Diverge.
Smaller and upright
Convex lens
2+ focal length- small and upside down
Between 1-2 - large and upside down
Less than 1- large and upright
