Science finals Flashcards
what is a Graduated cylinder
laboratory equipment used to measure the volume of a liquid
How to read a Graduated cylinder
the liquid is curved so always read the bottom of the curve
Balanced force
when two equal forces act on an object from different directions
Unbalanced force
when two unequal forces act on an object from different directions
newtons fist law
Law of Inertia - an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion untill acted upon by an unbalanced force
Newtons second law
Law of Acceleration - the acceleration of an object is directly related to the net force and inversely related to its mass. Acceleration of an object depends on two things, force and mass.
Newtons third law
law of Action and Reaction - for every action their is an opposite and equal reaction
Example of Newtons first law
A ball rolling down a hill will continue to roll unless friction or another force stops it
Example of Newtons second law
Acceleration of the rocket is due to the force applied, known as thrust
Example of Newtons third law
when you jump, your legs apply a force to the ground, and the ground applies an equal and opposite reaction force that propels you into the air
Screw
a pole with a wedge wrapped around it
wedge
two incline planes
incline plane
a slanted object
pulley
a wheel that carries a flexible rope, cord, cable, chain, or belt on its rim
Wheel and Axle
consists of a wheel and a smaller axle that are attached and rotate together
