They give shape and support.
What do bones protect?
Your internal organs.
What protects the brain?
The skull (cranium).
What protects your heart and lungs?
The ribs.
What protects your spinal cord?
The vertebrae.
What helps bones move?
Skeletal muscles.
Where are blood cells made?
In the marrow inside long bones.
What minerals are stored in bones and where are they stored?
Calcium and phosphorus. They are stored in the skeleton for later and make bones hard.
How many bones are in the skeleton?
About 206
How many bones are in the skull?
29 bones.
What are the three bones in the ear?
Hammer, anvil, stirrup.
What is the jawbone called?
The mandible (only movable skull bone).

Sternum.
What are your shoulder blades called?
Scapula.
How many vertebrae are there?

What are the parts of a torso?
Sternum (breastbone)
Ribs
3. Clavicle (collarbone)
4. Scapula (shoulder blade)
5. Pelvis (hip bones)
6. Vertebrae (26 bones)
What is the upper arm bone?

- patella (knee)
- tibia (lower – thicker)
- fibula (lower – thinner/more fragile)
- tarsals (feet – think t – toes)
- metatarsals
- phalanges (toes)
What is a joint?
A place where two bones meet.
What is a fixed/immovable joint?
A joint with little or no movement (like in the skull).
What is a movable joint?
Allow a wide range of motions
What does a pivot joint do?
One bone rotates (like your neck).
