ASIA - Frankel A
Motor and sensory complete.
No motor or sensory function in S 4/5.
ASIA - Frankel B
Sensory incomplete (motor complete).
Sensory but no motor function below NLI, including S 4/5.
ASIA - Frankel C
Motor incomplete (sensory incomplete).
Motor function below NLI, more than half of muscles graded <3/5.
ASIA - Frankel D
Motor incomplete (Sensory incomplete).
Motor function below NLI, at least half of muscles graded ≥3/5.
ASIA - Frankel E
Normal
MRC - Muscle strength grades
0 = no movement
1 = traces of contraction
2 = Full AROM, gravity eliminated
3 = Full AROM, against gravity
4 = Full AROM, against resistance
5 = Normal power
LTT and PPT
Light touch test: superficial surface sensation.
Pin prick test: deep superficial sensation.
Functional Assessments - Mobility in bed and transfers
Rolling, repositioning to prevent skin injuries.
Safe, proper sequence, efficient.
Functional Assessments - Walking Aid, WST/WST-Q
Wheelchair skill test: objective, assesses capacity. powered vs manual.
WST-Questionnaire: subjective, assesses performance, confidence and frequency.
Functional Assessments - Sitting/Standing Balance
Sitting: Boubée scale (specific for SCI), TIS.
Standing: Static: BBS, Dynamic: DGI.
Functional Assessments - Walking and Gait
WISCI: walking index for SCI. Type of assistance patient will need to walk.
Observational Gait Analysis.
Respiratory Function
Muscle capacity MIP/MEP.
Chest wall compliance.
Cough and breath sounds.
Cardiovascular Function
Signs of DVT (swelling, redness, heat, throbbing pain).
Orthostatic hypotension (dizziness, blurred vision, weakness, nausea, syncope).
Pressure Injuries
Inspection (educate patient and care giver).
Braden Scale: Risk of developing pressure injuries.
BI
Barthel index. ADLs.
Feeding
Bathing
Grooming
Dressing
Bowels
Bladder
Toilet use
Transfers
Mobility
