Characterised by positive and negative symptoms

Positive
- Auditory hallucinations
- Persecutory delusions
- Ideas of Reference (TV programmes telling you something)
Negative
- Losing normal thoughts
- Loss of interest in daily activities
- inability to concentrate
- cease to wash, dishes, clothes, self.

MSE Positive Findings
A
Will note of persecutory delusions
Hallucinations of 2nd and 3rd person
Thoughts content may contain ideas of reference

Management
A
Bio - placed on antipsychotic eg. Quetiapine, aripripraxole, risperidone and olanzapine. Clozapine can work well but not for everyone.
Psychology - Family therapy, CBT, supportive counselling.
Social - Social worker, occupational therapist and community psychiatric nurse.
