What is OCD

A

Is a disorder of the mind where unpleasant thoughts appear in your mind and cause anxiety.

To reduce the anxiety, people have compulsions which will get in the way of everyday tasks.

Three parts, obsessions causing anxiety. Anxiety makes you feel anxious. Compulsions to ease/reduce the anxiety.

Symptoms

A
Intrusive thoughts that affect your day to day life.
Can be about:
 - Hygiene
 - Protecting/hraming loved ones
 - Perfectionism
 - Doubts

Form of thought can come as pictures as well.

Management

A

CBT of two kinds

Exposure and response Prevention
- Therapy that will slowly introduce your anxiety and help accept/prevent/fight your thoughts to reduce your anxiety without the need of compulsions.

  • Cognitive therapy is way to identify your negative thoughts and help change unhelpful responses and behaviour.

Medication - SSRI.
