What is bipolar disorder
A
Mental illness which brings severe mood swings that can last periods of weeks to months.
Manic, hypomania and depressive.

Symptoms and signs/presentation
A
Agitated, restless, full of energy, extremely happy.
Grandiose delusions.
Depressive - Low mood, loss of interest, low energy.

Types of Bipolar
A
Bipolar I - Manic episode for at least a week (but usually 6-12 months) and a depressive episode for 6 months.
Bipolar II - Episodes of severe depression and hypomania.
Rapid Cycling - Four mood swings in 12 months.

Management
A
Mood Monitoring, CBT and couples/family therapy.
Drugs
1 - Haloperodil, quetiapine, olanzapine, risperidone.
2 - Lithium, sodium valproate.
3 - Fluoxetine w/olanzapine
