SCBA Flashcards
Members are not fully protected from CBRN agents…
unless wearing the SCBA IN CONJUnCTION with PROPER PPC (LEVEL A entry set) and proper hazmat training
SCBA DOES NOT PROTECT AGAINST ??
- HEAT EXHAUSTION or exposure to heat or flame
- or absorption through parts NOT covered by scab
- does not protect or cover ears
Exit time and working time will vary considerably depending upon..
physical condition work load physical characteristics training other factors
Contact lenses and glasses..
–must not interfere in achieving good seal
glasses with TEMPLE BARS OR STRAPS that pass between face and the seal of face piece MUST NOT BE USED
-EACH SIZE FP may be equipped with a lens frame kit
-members must request
NEVER use SCBA under water..
–if SCBA becomes submerged, it must be placed OOS and returned to MSU(RT-2)
PRESSURIZED TO 4500PSI..
CYLINDER HOLDS PURIFIED BREATHING AIR
Service life of SCBA..
15 YEARS
- DATE OF MANUFACTURER listed on scot label MONTH AND YEAR (1/05)–JANUARY 05
- HYDROSTATIC TESTING DONE EVERY 5 YEARS -DATE FOUND ON TOP FO CYLINDER (102) INDICATES JANUARY 02
- cylinders that have had hydrostatic retest will have round HYDRO RECERTIFIED LABEL GLUED TO IT, with month and year
–10 minute escape cylinder used by SOC –hydrostatic every 3 years
Wow using different cylinder..only adjustment ?
CYLINDER SLIDE BUCKLE
-SCBA assembly can accept 30,45,60 minute cylinders
Service duration times…
40 liters per minute
30–1200 liters
45- 1800 liters
-60-2400 liters
Extra cylinders should be placed on their sides …
with VALVE STEM and HANDLE PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE
INSPECT all spare cylinders (DEPOTS, HIGH RISE UNITS, receiver apparatus )
weekly on MONDAYS for FULL PRESSURE (4500 PSI)–stored cylinder found below full, return to MSU for inspection
DO NOT open cylinder valve , when cylinder is NOTIN BACKFRAME OR SECURED IN SOME OTHER MANNER
DO NOT direct airflow at yourself
AVOID fully depleting cylinders and leaving valve open, this will allow moisture and contaminants to build up in cylinder
Designated training cylinders are identified by ?
BLUE TOP or POLYMER PROTECTIVE SLEEVE
DO NOT use company or spare SCBA’S for dragging methods…
ONLY use EMERGENCY REMOVAL TRAINING KIT
–EACH BATTALION ISSUED ON KIT
When exchanging Cylinder..
SHUT DOWN FULLY and PURGE ALL RESIDUAL AIR
HIGH PRESSURE HAND COUPLING SHOULD BE..
HAND TIGHT , NEVER USE wrench
-when new cylinder is attached, open cylinder valve FULLY, listen for any leaks
TIGHTEN OR REPLACE NYLON O-RING..
1/8” allen wrench and 7/16” open end wrench
UNIVERSAL AIR COUPLING…
- EMERGENCY USE ONLY (NOT FOR QUICK CHARGE OR BUDDY BREATHING)
- MUST HAVE PROTECTIVE DUST COVER IN PLACE–if missing place OOS
PRESSURE REDUCING ASSEMBLY –PRA..
-normally reduces pressure to 100 PSI before entering low pressure hose, the regulator then reduces pressure to SLIGHTLY ABOVE ATMOSPHERIC
Malfunction of PRA..
- AUTOMATICALLY direct breathing air into SECONDARY SYSTEM…This will cause pressure to be reduced to ONLY 150 PSI and VIBRALERT will activate
- member must NOTIFY OFFICER AND LEAVE CONTAMINATED AREA IMMEDIATELY , accompanied by another member
Failure of both primary /secondary system in open position will activate relief valve in the PRA and rapidly discharge all pressure in excess of 185 PSI..
- -cylinder valve shall be PARTIALLY closed , allowing minimal amount of air to release
- notify officer and leave immediately
LOW PRESSURE HOSE…
- conveys breathing air from PRA to regulator assembly
- incorporates QUICK DISCONNECT WITH HUD CONNECTION
Positive pressure inside face piece…
SLIGHTLY above atmoshperic
Manual shut off switch..
- -stop air flow into the face piece prior to facepiece removal
- when depressed, switch holds regulator in closed position, stopping air flow…swiTCH AUTOMATICALLY releases when member inhales sharply
if the switch is not pressed, full 45 minute cylinder can be depleted in 4 minutes
if manual shut off fails to release for any reason…
–TURN THE RED PURGE VALVE DOWNWARD 180 DEGREES and start flow of air…NOTIFY OFFICER and IMMEDIATELY LEAVE AREA
