ADDENDUM 2/APR Flashcards
three components…
- facepiec
- facepiec adaptor
- CBRN canister
- air tight seal of face piece is crucial to the effectiveness of the respirator
- LOWER LEVEL OF PROTECTION IN COMPARISON TO SCBA RESPIRATOR
Filtered Air Respirators shall NOT be used when..
- air hazard NOT IDENTIFIED
- air hazard concentrations cannot be measured
- air is oxygen deficient (less than 19.5%)
- air is oxygen enriched (above 23.5%)
- air hazard is CO
- AIR HAZARD is explosive/flammable
- NOT used in fires
- NOT used in CONFINED SPACES
EVEN with proper filter element, protection offered by apr depends upon many factors such as:
- quality of face piece FIT
- elapsed time since filtration element was placed in service
- level of physical activity (increased respirations)
- humidity-high relative humidity shortens the service life of organic vapor canister
Who makes decision to use APR’S..
IC in consultation with HAZ MAT GROUP SUPERVISOR
