Addendum 1/FAST PAK Flashcards
Fast Pak carried by all..
LADDERS, RESCUE, SQUADS
- -decal affixed to apparatus compartment , quick identification (red lettering/white background)
- replacement decals (MSU)(cf: replacement batteries for PASS)
-non cBRN
high pressure and low pressure can operate SIMULTANEOUSLY …
NOT equipped with vibraalert or hud..
- ONLY WAY TO MONITOR AIR IN FAST PAK IS CYLINDER GAUGE
- essential that oNE MEMBER of fast unit is assigned to monitor the actual volume of air remaining in the portable cylinder
- this member must have AUDIBLE communication with EXTRICATION TEAM
HIGH PRESSURE air supply..
–high pressure coupling will fit ALL UAC’S
-permits replenishing of an SCBA while in use
-UAC is for emergency use only (low or out of air in IDLH)
-5 FOOT HOSE
-EQUALIZE AIR in both cylinders in 60 seconds
-air will stop flowing when equalization takes place
-when this charging is complete, DISCONNECT UAC hose assembly
-if member’s air becomes depleted during removal us FAST PAK remaining air, this will only marginally replenish member’s cylinder…both will equalize again , 1/2 each
KEY POINTS:
-if member’s cylinder /valve assembly show damage or evidence of heat exposure , decision must be made whether this is suitable for recharging
-connect the FAST PAK coupling to UAC, sleeve CLICKS, TUG ON COUPLING TO BE SURE
-UAC is damaged , do NOT USE(USE LOW PRESSURE)
–MISSING DUST CAP..quickly examine for debris and remove any debris…if UAC IS IMPACTED OR BLOCKED WITH DEBRIS, do NOT USE
-if at any time during FILING PROCESS, LEAK IS DETECTED, IMMEDIATELY DISCONTINUE
LOW PRESSURE AIR SUPPLY..
- -20 foot low pressure hose
- use where space is restricted or access to UAC is obstructed
- regulator with or without face piece can be passed through debris to member low on air
- member assigned to monitor air of fast pak, must protect 20 foot hose from high heat, hot embers, sharp objects and entanglement
LOW PRESSURE LINE…4 methods..
- replace member’s regulator with FAST PAK REGULATOR
- ensure regulator LOCKS into position
- CLICK should be heard during initial inhalation, this will indicate functioning and ON of manual shut off switch
- if UNABLE to activate the inhalation valve, TURN THE RED PURGE VALVE DOWNWARD , AWAY FROM FACE
- rescuers MUST ensure purge valve REMAINS OPEN (this will cause a more rapid depletion of air from supply cylinder)
2.Hansen Fitting
-disconnect hansen fitting of member’s low pressure hose below his regulator..PUSH MALE COUPLING IN FIRST, then pull back sleeve to disengage coupling
-connect low pressure hose from member’s regulator to hansen fitting on FAST PAK ..test for proper engagement
-
3. Replace member’s facepiece with FAST PAK Facepiece
-remove member’s face piece and place fast oak face piece and make necessary adjustments
-during initial inhalation, CLICK should be heard..unable to activate, turn red purge valve downward and away from face
- SCHRADER CONNECTION
- SOC UNITS ONLY
Fast pak for NON FDNY MEMBERS..
a. idlh and immediate removal not possible
b. confined space rescure
**DO NOT USE FAST PAK ASSIGNED TO FAST UNIT FOR NON FDNY MEMBERS **
Bleeding procedure FAST PAK…
- -close cylinder valve
- verify DUST CAP in place
- bleed high pressure air by PUSHING IN THE CENTER OF THE DUST CAP
- bleed low pressure air by using PURGE VALVE
INSPECT FAST PAK..
- -cylinders showing damage or heat exposure OOS –RT-2 FOR MSU
- Cylinder gauge should read FULL
- EVERY TOUR and AFTER EACH US*
- Mask record card for each FAST PAK (SD-30)
FAST PAK OOS:
- RT-2
- NOTIFY BATTALION FOR THEIR SPARE
- FORWARD TO MSU via division messenger
Notes:
- fast pal use anticipated, turn on in CLEAN ATMOSPHERE and check cylinder for FULL reading
- FAST PAK put into operation, IC shall ensure second fast oak is available at scene
- keep all couplings dry…water on couplings may freeze preventing connection
NO SINGLE METHOD IS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL SITUATIONS(does not mention best fast oak method )
