What do you know about SCARLET FEVER?
Casuses strep throat
Direct or indirect contact with nasopharyngeal secretions ( school-age children)
DROPLET PRECAUTIONS
What are the signs and synptims of Scarelet fever?
Initial - high fever, sore throat, headache, malaise, abd pain
12 to 24 hrs - rash appears
Enanthema (internal)
Exanthema(external)
Ss of Enanthema Scarelet fever
Tonsils red swollen covered with exudate
Throat red and swollen
Tounge white strawberry
(1 to 2 days)
Red strawberry (4 to 5 days)
Palpate erythematosus pinpoint lesions
SS of Enanthema
Flushed face with red circumoral pallor around the mouth
Pinpoint red rash ( absent of face feels like sandpaper, more intense in folds of joints, DESQUAMATION (fingers and toes) begins by end of 1st week
Scarlet fever complications
Rethropharyngeal abscess
Sinusitiotitis media
Acute/chronic glomerulonephritis
Acute/chronic rheumatic fever
What are the nursing interventions of Scarelet Fever?
Antibiotic piniccillin
Bedrest
Encourage fluids
Relieve discomfort of sore throat
Prevent spread ( handwashing, discard toothbrush, avoid sharing of foods and drinks)
DROPLET PRECAUTIONS until 24 hrs after starting antibiotic
