Scapulae Flashcards
1
Q
Basic projections for scapula
A
- AP
- Lateral
2
Q
Patient positioning of AP of scapula
A
- patient standing facing the x-ray tube with the midscapula centered on the IR
- Top edge of IR should be 5cm from the shoulders and 5cm from lateral margin of rib cage.
- Rotate the trunk 30 degrees towards the affected side to bring the blade of the scapula parallel to the IR
- Elbow of affected limb is flexed and dorsum part rest on the hip
- arm is rotated internally to move scapula laterally away from the ribcage
3
Q
Centering point
A
2.5 cm inferior and medial to the head of the humerus
4
Q
Evaluation criteria for AP projection of the scapula
A
- collimation to area of interest
- Medial portion of the scapula is seen through the thoracic structures
- Affected arm is abducted 90 degrees evidence by the lateral boarder free of superimposition
- Optimal density and contrast with no motion. Demonstrate clearly sharp bobeyv
5
Q
Lateral projection of the scapula
A
- patient facing the Image receptor
- Humerus slightly abducted to separate the humeral shaft from the blade of the scapula and flex the elbow
- Raise the unaffected side of the trunk until the broad plane of the scapula is 90 degrees to IR
- Place anatomical marker, collimate and apply radiation protection.
6
Q
Centering point of lateral projection of the scapula
A
- center to mid point of the medial border and to the middle of the IR.
7
Q
Evaluation criteria for lateral scapula
A
- true latera is evidenced by the superimposition of vertebral and lateral borders
- Collimation of area of interest
- Bony borders and acromion process should be seen
