Lateral Chest And AP Xial Projection (Lordotic Projection) Flashcards
1
Q
Lateral projection of chest positioning
A
- the patient is erect and in the lateral position facing the affected side.
- Arms folded above the head
- Median sagittal plane must parallel to the IR, this must be checked from the posterior aspect of the patient.
2
Q
Centering point of lateral projection of the chest
A
- through the axilla at the level of thoracic vertebrae 6-7 midway between the front and the back.
3
Q
Why is AP axial projection of the chest done?
A
- demonstrate areas of the apical lungs obscured on the PA .
- To provide a different anatomic perspective that can be used to evaluate suspicious areas.
4
Q
AP axial projection clinical indications
A
- To rule out calcification and masses beneath the clavicles
5
Q
Patient positioning of AP axial projection of the chest.
A
- 35x43 cm IR placed lengthwise or crosswise
- Stand the patient about 30 cm away from the IR and leaning back with shoulders, neck and back of head against IR.
- Both patients hands on hips, palms out and shoulders rolled forward
- Midsagittal plane centered to the central ray and IR
- The top of the IR should be about 7-8 cm above the shoulders on an average patient.
6
Q
Centering point of AP axial projection of the chest ( lordotic projection)
A
- central ray centered to mid sternum 9cm below jugular notch.
