Steps to write a major or minor scale
A
- Put in key signature (if necessary)
- Write the first note, starting low for ascending scales and high for descending scales.
- Write seven more notes (ignore accidentals)
- If not using key signature, add sharps/flats as accidentals
- Add extra accidentals as necessary.

Extra accidentals needed
A
Major and minor melodic descending: none
Minor harmonic: raise the 7th note by one semitone
Minor melodic ascending: raise 6th and 7th note by one semitone

Uses all semitones for one octave
Interval between each note is one semitone
