- Put the chord notes into root position, with an interval of a third between each one
- The lowest note tells you the name of the chord

The number note in the scale is the Roman numeral

- Look at the lowest note of the chord
- Compare to the triad
- Lowest note = root position, middle note = first inversion, top note = second inversion
