Presentation of obstruction

A

Abdo pain

  • colicky
  • location depends on gut region
  • constant pain suggests strangulation or impending perf

Distension

Vomiting

  • early in high obstruction
  • late or never in low obstruction

Absolute constipation

Abdo xrays ERECT: identifies obstruction

Bloods: FBC, Urea, U+Es, amylase, VBG, G+S

RESUS: NBM + IV fluids
NGT to decompress UGIT
Catheterize

Therapy: analagesia + abx if strang. or perf.
