Q

What do abiotic factors affect and why?

A

They affect the distribution of organisms in an area. This is because all organisms are adapted to survive and live in a certain environment and if the abiotic factors change, the organisms will not be able to cope with the change and will either die or migrate.

Q

How can humans control the population of a species?

A

Introducing a new predator in a species’ habitat will decrease the number of prey and increase the number of predators.

Q

What is the predator-prey cycle?

A
  1. The number of both predator and prey will increase and decrease alternately
  2. When the predators are in the area they will eat the prey at a given time and the prey numbers will decrease
  3. Since they have enough food, the predators can survive and breed to increase in population
  4. The predators will be eating a lot more prey and the prey numbers will decrease a lot more
  5. The predators won’t have enough food available and they will starve to death leading to a decrease in population
  6. At that time, the prey will have the advantage to survive and breed to increase in population again
