Saphenous N Flashcards
1
Q
Anatomy
A
SENSORY
- largest termination of femoral N, passes posteriomedial from femoral triangle to Hunter’s canal b/w VMO and adductor longus
- branches twice before leaving canal into infrapatellar and descending branches
- infrapatellar branch -> medial knee and medial knee joint
- descending branch -> medial side of foot
2
Q
Origins of mechanical irritation
A
Genu varum (compression) Genu valgum (tractional) Internal tibial torsion Direct trauma Medial meniscus protrusion Knee joint instability Obesity Stretching in knee flex, repetitive motion
3
Q
Examination
A
PFT -> 4 fingerbreadths above medial condyle
Tinel’s sign
LLTT -> prone hip extension and knee flexion
MSTT/MMT -> thigh adduction, knee extension against resistance
Movement analysis -> avoidance of terminal knee extension, history of traumas, surgeries (meniscus or TKA)
4
Q
Treatment
A
relieve pressure, myofascial manipulation, muscle stretching, decrease loading activity
decrease inflammation if present
desensitization
