Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve Flashcards
Anatomy
SENSORY only
“meralgia paresthetica”
L1, L2, L3 nerve roots
commonly emerges from beneath lateral aspect of psoas and descends obliquely along anterior surface of iliacus
may run under, over, through inguinal nerve medial to ASIS
ant branch -> innervates skin of anterolateral thigh as far as knee
post branch -> innervates skin over posterolateral thigh from trochanteric region to mid thigh
Origins of mechanical irritation
At ASIS where nerve passes thru lateral end of inguinal ligament
Adduction of leg or shift of body medial/lateral
Leg length discrepancy
Iliacus fascia
Direct trauma
Spasm holding trunk/pelvis
Obesity
Constricting clothing, tool belts, seat belts
Fracture, surgery
Examination
PFT
Fascial mobility
Abdominal contractions
Treatment
Leg length discrepancy, patient self-care, myofasical interventions, addressing present LS dysfunction
