Ilioinguinal Nerve Flashcards
Anatomy
MOTOR & SENSORY
L1-L2 nerve roots, follows intercostal nerve
Runs b/w transversalis and internal obliques before reaching round ligament under external oblique
Innervates transversalis and internal oblique
Similar to L2 dermatome -> recurrent branch innervates skin over iliac crest, rest of nerve innervates base of scrotum or labia
Origins of mechanical irritation
anterior superior spine
loss of core control/strength
violent tensing of abdominal muscles
Examination
abdominal wall tone/weakness/hernia
inability to stand erect, fascial planes
Palpation medial to ASIS
Kendall’s leg lowering test with hand under lumbar spine
Treatment
Treat fascial restriction, hip hypomobilities, TA training
