Q

How? Random sample AO1

A

Random allocation
Create a list of all the target pop write names on equal size pieces of paper put it in a hat without looking select the number u want in your sample

Q

A03 strength? Random sample

A

Unbiased= everyone in the study has an equal chance of being selected
Increase internal validity

Q

AO3 limitation? Random sample

A

Time consuming= takes time and can be difficult collecting all names of ppt to take part and not guaranteed ppt would take part

Q

How? Systematic sample AO1

A

-Create sampling frame to organise the target population e.g put in alphabet order
- decide on system e.g every 5th or 10th person is chosen until there are enough

Q

A03 limitation? Systematic sample

A

Sample not be representative= not everyone got equal chance to being picked out.
- difficult to generalise to target pop
- time consuming and difficult for researcher

Q

A03 limitation? Opportunity sample

A

May not be representative of the target pop
As they are present in the same place
- they may have similar personalities making it difficult to generalise findings to wider pop

16
Q

AO3 limitation? Volunteer sample

A

Sample maybe bias/ nor rapresentative as only certain type of personality would volunteer (extroverted/ curious )

17
Q

What’s Stratified sample AO1?

A

Advanced way of sampling where the make-up of the sample reflects the proportion of sub group in target pop

18
Q

How? Stratified sample AO1?

A

1 identify the diff subgroup
2 calculate how many of each proportion u would need for ur sample
3 n of ppt are chosen using random sampling

19
Q

Calculation if percentage is given? Stratified sample

A

(Sample size wanted/100) x percentage size of subgroup

20
Q

Calculation if percentage is not given
Stratified sample

A

(sample size wanted/ target pop size) x subgroup size

21
Q

Calculation if percentage is not given
Stratified sample

A

(sample size wanted/ target pop size) x subgroup size

22
Q

A03 strength? Stratified sample

A

Most representative sample as it accurately reflects the make-up target pop in correct amounts meaning findings can be generalised to target pop

23
Q

AO3 limitation? Stratified sample

A

Very time consuming= because it takes time working out the proportions of ppt needed
- not guaranteed ppt would consent take part
