Sampling methods Flashcards
Opportunity sampling
taking a sample from people available at that current moment
Ad - Quick and easy
Dis ad - Wont be representative of the majority of the target audience
Random sampling
Every member of population has a chance of being chosen like a lottery
Ad - truly representative sample of people
dis - Difficult on large scale / issues with withdrawal
Snowball sampling
recruits in study recruit people they know and so on
ad - Useful to access hard groups of people
dis - not true sectional as its friends of friends
Self selected sampling
they volunteered
ad - very simple
dis - very bias and reliant on others
Stratified sampling
Sectioning population into Category and choosing a sample from each Category
ad - Likely to be much more representative than other methods because it is proportional representation of subgroups
dis - very time consuming
Systematic sampling
Where they use a system to select participants
ad - unbias
dis - Not truly unbias
Quota sampling
Stratified sampling but not random
