Salivary secretion Flashcards

1
Q

Describe

  • Sympathetic
  • Parasympathetic regulation of salivary secretions
  • Environmental stimuli
A

Sympathetic
-via sup cervical ganglia => amylase

Parasympathetic

  • via X => acing saliva, ductal HCO3 secretion
  • via NANC => increased blood flow, my-epithelium contraction

Environmental

  • Taste/chewing, hot/cold, pain, smell stimulate salivation
  • Sleep, fear, fever, depression inhibits salivation

Q

Describe the route of saliva

A

Increased blood flow to sustain active secretion (many NaKATPase)

Acinar cells => isotonic primary saliva

Duct cells => hypotonic K, HCO3 rich secondary section
