Salivary Glands Flashcards
What are the Boundaries of the Parotid Region?
External Acoustic Meatus and tempromandibular joint -superiorly
Ramus of Mandible, masseter and medial pterygoid-anteriorly
Styloid Process and muscles attached to it -Medially
Mastoid Process and sterncleisomastoid muscle- posteriorly
What are the contents of the parotid region?
Parotid Salivary Gland and Duct
Facial nerve
External carotid artery
Retromandibular vein.
Where is the salivary gland situated?
Below the external acoustic meatus
Between the mandible(in front)

What is the partoid gland closed by?
A tough fibrous capsule called the parotid shear derived from the investing layer of deep cervical fascia.
What is the stylomandibular joint?
The stylomandibular joint is located between the mandible and styloid process. It has became thickened to form the stylomandibular ligament
What is the role of the stylomandibular ligament?
The submandibular ligament separates the parotid gland from the submandibular gland
