Oral Cavity,Teeth,Palate Flashcards
What is the first part of the oral cavity?
Vestibule-narrow space situated inside the lips and outside of the teeth.
Communicates with the oral cavity proper freely.
Communicates with the exterior via oral fissure
Receives PAROTID DUCT.
What is the 2nd part of the oral cavity?
The oral cavity proper
Continuous anterior with vestibule and posteriorly with pharynx.
Roof is formed by soft palate and hard palate.
The floor is the tongue.
The anterior part of the floor contains the sublingual region
Sublingual region receives ducts from submandibular and sublingual gland.
What is the nerve supply of the teeth of the upper jaw?
Superior alveolar nerve arising from the maxillary nerve
What is the nerve supply of the teeth of the lower jaw?
Inferior alveolar nerve arising from mandibular nerve
What is the blood supply of the teeth?
Superior and inferior arteries from maxillary artery.
Describe the hard palate
Anterior part of the palate made up of bone.
Separates the oral cavity from the nasal cavity
Formed by palatine process of maxilla and palatine plate.
The inferior surface presents a depression on its surface known and incisive fossa.
What is Blood supply of hard palate?
Greater palatine arteries and veins
What is the Nerve supply of the hard palate?
Greater palatine nerves.
Describe the soft palate.
It is moveable, muscular fold, from the posterior border of hard palate.
Separates the nasopharynx from the oropharynx.
Has 2 surfaces, anterior surface and posterior surface
2 borders, superior border and inferior border.
Inferior border contains uvula.
What muscles extend from the soft palate?
Palatoglossus and palatopharyngeus muscle.
What are the muscles of the soft palate?
Tensor palati
Levantine palati
Palatoglossus
Palatopharyngeus
Musculus uvulae
What is the sensory nerve supple of the soft palate?
Lesser palatine and glossopharyngeal nerves
What is the motor nerve supple of the soft palate?
All muscles are supplied by the pharyngeal branch of vagus nerve via pharyngeal plexus
EXCEPT tensor palati which is supplied by the mandibular nerve.
What is the blood supply of the soft palate?
Lesser palatine arteries and veins.
What of the soft palate modifies the quality of voice ?
Pharyngeal isthmus.
