CA
Captain: they sit in the left seat of the flight deck and is identified with four stripes on their uniform
CCS
Crew Communication System: designed for a variety of crew scheduling functions and company services. CCS is accessible from the base and home computers through the internet
CQ
Continuing Qualification: annual training all FAs must attend. In CQ, FAs review procedures and are evaluated on all safety and security responsibilities
CRM/TEM
CRM is the promotion of safe operations and overall performance through optimum use of available resources including people, procedures and equipment.
TEM is the promotion of safe operations through the continuous process of identifying, avoiding and managing
operational threats and human errors.
CS
Crew Scheduling: department responsible for assigning crew members to a flight
CSR
Customer service Representative: agents working in the airport terminal who serve customers and help crew with incoming and outgoing flights.
DH
Deadhead: Transportation for non-working crew members from one point to another to cover a flight or return to the base.
Demo
Demonstration: Also known as the Safety Demonstration. A demonstration of the safety features on an aircraft presented to the customers through a video or my the FAs prior to every flight.
DOT
Department of Transportation: the governmental agency that governs the economic concerns of the airline industry.
eFAAB
Electronic Flight Attendant Announcements Booklet: Contains important safely and service announcement information for customers.
eFAOM
Electronic Flight Attendant Operations Manual: Manual for FAs containing regulations, standards, policies and procedures necessary to conduct FA duties and responsibilities on the aircraft.
eIPPM
Inflight Policies and Procedures Manual: Contains policies, procedures and standards for all United FAs
EVAC
Evacuation: used to describe the quickest and most orderly method to exit customers from an aircraft in an emergency situation

Federal Aviation Administration: Government agency which regulates the safety of airline operations through specific Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)
FAFR
Fatigue Report: This is a confidential reporting tool that allows FA: to proactively identify and report instances of fatigue before they occur, and ask questions - all while remaining confidential
FAR
Federal Aviation Regulation: Regulations that impact FSs policies, procedures and responsibilities
FAST
Inflight Administration: a department which support FA needs regarding regular work, absences and leaves, scheduled training and other information regarding parameters in the current JCBA (Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement)
FO
First Officer: pilot who sits in the right seat of the flight deck and has three stripes on their uniform.
FWD
Forward: Front of the aircraft toward the flight deck.
GS
Global Services: invitation-only MileagePlus premier status level
IATA
International Air Transport Association: an international trade body representing some 230 airlines comprising 93% of scheduled international air traffic. The organization also represents, leads and serves the airline industry.
IFR
Inflight Final Report: Final flight info that includes flight #, security info, minimum crew, flight schedule, board time, flight crew, schedule departure, block to block, flight time and passengers of interest cont/list.

IRO
International Relief Officer: An extra pilot scheduled in a flight used to relieve the working pilots for their crew rest.
ISAP
Inflight Safety Action Program
ISD
Inadvertent Slide Deployment: An incident in which the emergency slide of an aircraft is released from the slide pack housing for any reason other than an emergency evacuation.
ISW
Inflight Service Weekly: Brings you updated to policies and procedures, catering news, reminders, and other important information.
JCBA
Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement
J/S
Jumpseat: retractable seat which seat belts located near exits or in-flight deck; for FAs (or pilots in flight deck) to sit during takeoff and landing.
KCM
Known Crew member: Program that expedites flight crew-member’s access to airport sterile areas and reduced passengers screening-line congestion. Crew-members may clear security checkpoints at participating airports by using designated KCM security lane.

SSR
Special Service Request: Identifies specific customer requests for assistance, including wheelchairs, electric carts,disabled passengers, unaccompanied minors and pets in the cabin. FAs can view the SSR codes for their flight in LINK and on the IFR (Inflight Final Report)

Take-Off Learning: learning resource portal. It provides all employees access to resources and a chance to explore new skills, develop in their current role or a role you aspire to move to or learn something about United’s business.
TSA
Transportation Security Administration: Government group who protects the nation’s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.
UB
United Business: Forward cabin on flights operating to/ from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and northern South America, as well as intra-Pacific routes where UnitedPolaris business class is not available.
UE
United Economy: class cabin
UF
United First: forward cabin for customers traveling within the U.S., and Hawaii with the exception of p.s (premium service) flights.
UPP
United Premium Plus: Premium seats on long-haul international flights and select domestic flights. They feature roomy seats, more spacious environment and includes an upgraded dining experience.
UPB
United Polaris Business Class: name of forward cabin on 2-class aircraft and the middle cabin on a 3-class aircraft. This business class product across the whole fleet elevates services and comfort on long-haul international and p.s (premium service) flights.
