Assess/Clarify for Suicide Risk
Ex: Assess for Suicide/Depression
Increased Alcohol/Drug Intake
Ex: CLient drinks more alcohol due to recent loss.

Homicidal Thoughts/Ideation
Ex: Client says “I want to kill my neighbor”
Assess/Clarify Threat
Ex: Clarify if there is a real intent
Real Intent/Plan
Take action to Save a Life
Suicidal Plan/Intent
Ex: Client says “I will take all my Meds”
911, Er, Psych ER, Mobile Crisis
Homicidal Plan/Intent
Ex: Client says he will kill his neighbor with his gun.
Duty to Warn
Ex: Warn the neighbor
Suspects/Abuse (emotional, physical, sexual, neglect)
Ex: You suspect a child is being abused.
MUST Report to Authorities
Ex: Report the abuse to Child Protective Services
Unexpected Marks/Bruises
Ex: You notice unexplained bruises on an Elder
Must Report Proper Authorities
Ex: Report bruises to Adult Protective Servies
Life Threatening Situation
Take action that Saves a Life
Domestic Violence
Develop a Safty Plan with the client, Educate Client on Domestic Violence situations
When you see Suspects, Abuse, Unexplained Marks, Bruises
Do NOT clarify/Assess/Gather information/Ask Questions/ Speak to Parents- instead, REPORT IT!
Social Workers are Mandated Reporters for Child and Elder Abuse
