Structural Theory
- ID: “pleasure principle” unconscious source of basic Desires
- Ego: “reality principle” - seeks to satisfy basic desire in socially acceptable way
- Superego: moral & Ethical ability to choose right from wrong
Psychosexual Stages:
Oral Stage
-Birth to 1 yr. : Mouth is main source of instant gratification
Psychosexual Stages:
Anal Stage
-1 to 3yrs.: child gains control over bowel movement & toilet training

Phallic Stage
3 to 6 yrs. child is curious about their sexual organs & explores others
Psychosexual Stages:
Latency Stage
-6 to puberty: basic desires are repressed & expressed in socially acceptable ways (i.e., sports, friendships, & hobbies)

Genital Stage
- Puberty & onward
- Individual is no longer driven by instant gratification
- Only & is independent & has concern for others (i.e., relationships & adult responsibilities)
