Green
For Ordinary Time
White
White is the colour proper to the Easter Season, the feasts of Our Lord, except those of His Passion (ie. Transfiguration, Ascension, etc.), Masses connected to the Blessed Sacrament (ie. Holy Thursday, Corpus Christi), the feasts of the Blessed Virgin, angels, confessors, pastors, bishops and Popes (who are not martyrs), virgins and women (who are not martyrs), and for the nuptial Mass; also in services in connection with the Blessed Sacrament (ie. Benediction and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament), at the burial of children, in the administration of baptism, Holy Viaticum, and matrimony.
In the Ordinary Form, it may be worn during Requiem (Funeral) Masses.
Red
Red is the color proper to the season of Pentecost, on the feasts of Christ’s Passion (ie. Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross) and His Precious Blood, the feasts of the 12 Apostles (excluding st. John), feasts of confessors, pastors, bishops, and Popes (who died as martyrs), feasts of virgins and holy women (who died as martyrs); and in votive Masses of these feasts (Votive Mass of the Passion of the Lord).
It is also used on Good Friday.
Violet
Violet is the color proper to the season of Advent and the season of Lent (Septuagesima Sunday (Ash Wednesday in the Ordinary Form) to Easter), on Ember days (except the vigil of Pentecost and the Ember days during the octave of Pentecost). Violet is also used for Mass on Rogation days, for votive Masses of the Passion and of penitential character (Votive Mass in Times of Pestilence), at the blessing of candles and of Holy Water.
It may act as a substitute for the color black, in all occasions.
Gold
The color gold is proper to the same days which white is used.
It is usually used on days of great solemnity (Easter Sunday, Ascension Thursday, Christmas, etc.)
The color gold may replace any liturgical color (granted, that the proper liturgical color for the Office of that day is unavailable).
Rose
The color rose, a light pink, is proper to two days of the year:
Gaudete Sunday (Third Sunday of Advent) during the Advent Season
Laetare Sunday (Fourth Sunday of Lent) during the Lenten Season
Black
The color black is proper for three occasions:
All Souls’ Day
Good Friday
Requiem (Funeral) Masses
Blue
The color blue is proper only to feasts, solemnities, or votive masses in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
If this color is not available during these feasts, it may be substituted by the colors white or gold.
