Sacramentum et res

the sacrament as such the matter and form, outward signs of god’s grace (the sign itself)

greek word for seal through the outward sign of the inward grace

that which is used to perform the sacrament (represents the past present and future)
Form
gestures, actions and words which represent/form the holy trinity, significant with matter (represents the past present and future)
Significando Causant
the sacraments confer the grace which they signify (they cause by signifying)
Instrumental Causality
the sacraments have the power to instrumentally cause grace through the holy spirit
Dispositive Causality
the sacraments do not efficiently and immediately cause grace, rather ex opere operato or character
Mysterion
greek word for hidden or secret contributed to the word sacrament, mysteries of faith, closely associated with sacramentum
Symbol
ex: anointing, baptism, laying of the hands, to be sealed with the gift of the holy spirit
