Sacral Plexus Flashcards
What 6 nerves belong to sacral plexus
- N. Gluteus cranialis
- N. Gluteus caudals
- N. Cutaneus femoris caudalis
- N. Ischiadicus
- N. Pudendus
- Nn. Caudales rectales
Nervus gluteus cranialis
> Motor
Supplies middle & deep gluteal & tensor fasciae latae muscles
Short nerve
Nervus gluteus caudalis
> Motor
Supplies extensor of hip (superficial gluteal muscle & vertebral head of hamstring muscle)
Nervus cutaneus femoris caudalis
> Motor and sensory
Supplies skin on lateral and caudal aspect of thigh and hip joint
Nervus Ischiadicus
> Motor and sensory
Thickest nerve in the body
Exits through foramen ischiadicum major
Supplies deep gluteal, internal obturatoe, quadriceps, and gemelli muscles
Sensory fibres supply the capsule of hip joint
Divides into
- N. Tibialis
- N. Peroneus communis
Nervus ischiadicus: Nervus Tibialis
> Runs caudally
Supplies biceps femoris, gastrocnemius, semitendinosus & Semimembranosus muscles
Divides into
- N. Cutaneus surae caudalis
- N. Plantaris medialis et lateralis
Nervus ischiadicus: Nervus Peroneus communis
> Supplies skin on dorsal aspect of knee
Divides into
- N. Cutaneus surae lateralis
- N. Peroneus: superficialis et profundus
Nervus pudendus
> Motor, sensory and parasympathetic fibres
Supplies urethral muscles, rectum, penis vulva, clitoris, M. Bulbocavernous, ischiocavernous, perineum, caudal part of udder
Divides into parasympathetic fibres
- Nn. Pelvini
- Plexus pelvinus
Nervi Rectales caudales
> Sensory and motor
Overlaps with M. Pudendus
Supplies anal and bulbospongius muscles and perineal skin
Sacral plexus location
> ventrally, the last 3 lumbar and first 2 sacral branches form the plexus
Located in pelvic cavity
Location for high and low epidural anesthesia
