Lymphatics Flashcards
Where does thoracic duct start and where does it end
+ where does it course
Ductus thoracicus
near aortic hiatus from cisterna chyli - courses along right-dorsal side of thoracic aorta - then to left in cranial mediastinum
Joins with cranial vena cava or left jugular vein at cranial thoracic aperture
To what two cranial parts is the thoracic duct divided into
Truncus trachealis [truncus jugularis]
>Bilateral duct along trachea - originating from retropharyngeal lymph
nodes and conveys lymph from head and neck
Ductus lymphaticus dexter
>Dorsal to abdominal aorta - collects lymph from visceral and lumbal
trunks
What are hemal lymph nodes and where do they occur?
Resemble lymph nodes - their sinuses are filled with blood; function like spleen
>Occur under peritoneum, along vertebral column in some viscera in Ru
and Eq + su
Parotid lymphocentre: where is it? What does it drain
Near parotid gland, drains the cranial regions
What lymphonodes belong to parotid lymphocentre
- Lymphonodi parotidei superficiales
- Lymphonodi parotidei profundi (su)
Mandibular lymphocentre - where is it and what does it drain?
In caudal half of intermandibular region - drains facial regions
What lymph nodes belong to mandibular lymphocentre
- Lymphonodi mandibulares
- Lymphonodi mandibulares accessorii (su)
Retropharyngeal lymphocentre - where is it and what does it drain
In retromandibular fossa - near parotid gland - drains deep structures of the head
What lymph nodes belong to retropharyngeal lymphocentre
- Lymphonodi retropharyngei mediales (in eq ventral to guttural pouch)
- Lymphonodi retropharyngei laterales
Superficial cervical lymphocentre - where is it and what does it drain?
In front of the shoulder - drains the thoracic wall and thoracic limb
What lymph nodes belong to superficial cervical lymphocentre
- Lymphonodi cervicales superficiales (Ca, Ru, Eq)
- Lymphonodi cervicales superficiales dorsales (Fe, Su)
- Lymphonodi cervicales superficiales medii (Su)
- Lymphonodi cervicales superficiales ventrales (Fe, Su)
Deep cervical lymphocentre: where is it and what does it drain?
It’s a chain of nodes along trachea - draining deep cervical structures
What lymph nodes belong to deep cervical lymphocentre?
- Lymphonodi cervicales profundi
Axillary lymphocentre - where is it and what does it drain?
Within the axilla - on medial muscles of the shoulder - drains the lateral thoracic wall and thoracic limb
What lymph nodes belong to axillary lymphocenter
- Lymphonodi axillares proprii
- Lymphonodi axillares primae costae
- Lymphonodus axillaris accessorius (Car, Bo, Eq, Ov)
- Lymphonodi cubitales (Eq, Ov)
Dorsal thoracic lymphocentre - where is it- what does it drain?
Along dorsal aspect of thoracic aorta - drains primarily dorsal and lateral parts of the thoracic wall
