The social standing of an individual in comparison to others in that society. It is based on education, income and occupation.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS
Important to know the difference between employment status and occupation. Occupation is the type of job someone has, whereas employment status relates to whether a person has a job or not.
SOCIAL NETWORKS AND SOCIAL EXCLUSION
Relates to the bonds between an individual and their relations, friends and acquaintances and the ability to participate in the society in which they live.
SOCIAL ISOLATION and LONELINESS
Refers to not being in contact with others
CULTURAL BACKGROUND
Cultural influences are customs, ideas, values, and traditions
of a particular society that is passed through generations.
GENDER STEREOTYPES
Gender stereotypes relate to behaviours that are acceptable
for males and females. They have started to be broken
down over recent years but many still exist.
FOOD SECURITY
Quality, availability and affordability affects what we eat
Food insecurity is when healthy, affordable food is not obtainable and leads to deficiency diseases and other complications.
EARLY LIFE EXPERIENCES
Every person is a product of their past experiences
Behaviors of women while pregnant are early life experiences for the unborn child
ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE
Services that promote and preserve health and well being
COMMERCIAL FACTORS
Commercial factors relate to the impact the private sector has on consumption patterns of individuals and groups. Private sector - non government entities that work to make a profit.
