Explain why a balanced diet is important prior to becoming pregnancy and during pregnancy
If you don’t have a balanced diet, they will have nutritional deficiencies prior to conceiving a child and are likely to have these deficiencies during pregnancy, particularly as the body faces additional nutritional demands because of the growing baby.
Why is iron important during pregnancy
iron requirements increase due to an increase in demand for oxygen for baby and mum.
Increased blood volume to cater developing baby and increased size of reproductive organs of mother.
Examples of foods to avoid during pregnancy
- alcohol
- raw or undercooked eggs
- undercooked meat or poultry
