3 Signs of Pregnancy
Probable, Presumptive and positive
Presumptive Sign
felt by woman; another condition can possibly cause symptoms
Probable SIgn
detected through trained examination by HCP; another condition can possibly cause symptoms
Positive Sign
felt or observed by the examiner; undeniable
Examples of Presumptive Signs of pregnancy
Amenorrhea Nausea and vomiting Fatigue Urinary frequency Breast Skin changes/ tenderness Vaginal Cervical Color Changes Quickening - Fetal Movement - butterflies
Examples of Probable Sign’s of pregnancy
High levels of hcg - could by hydatidiform mole→ cancerogenous.
Abdominal Enlargement- could be weight gain
Cervical Softening
Changes in the Uterus
Positive pregnancy Tests - Anticonvulsants may cause false-positive pregnancy test esults
Goodells’s sign- a softened cervix and vagina.
Chadwick’s sign- purplish or bluish discoloration of the cervix and vagina.
Hegar’s sign

Hearing a fetal heart rate
VIsualization on ultrasound
