Intrapartum complications Flashcards
Uterine rupture
Premature rupture of membranes
PROM interventions
Induce labor after 24 - 48 hours to reduce risk of inection
precipitate birth
shoulder dystocia
a condition where the head of the baby is born but the anterior shoulder is unable to pass down the pubic arch of the mother
shoulder dystocia interventions
McRoberts maneuver
involves keeping the patient’s legs flexed apart with the knees on the abdomen.
decreases the pelvic inclination, allowing more space for the shoulders to be delivered.
Bishop scoring
Evaluates the cervical response to induction procedures
A high score (above 6) is predictive of successful labor induction because the cervix has ripened or softened in preparation for labor
Interventions for hypovolemic shock
a. Provision of IV fluids
b. Placement of an indwelling Foley catheter
c. Assessment of oxygen saturation
d. Blood transfusion
